Roberto Clemente 2.1K Charity Walk Caps Off an Outstanding Weekend

The Roberto Clemente Foundation's remarkable weekend celebration came to a heartwarming conclusion on Sunday with the Roberto Clemente 2.1K Charity Walk. After four days of festivities, the walk provided the perfect closing note to a weekend filled with purpose and camaraderie in Pittsburgh.

Thursday was kicked off in style with the Clemente Gala Dinner and Award Show, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable few days. On Friday, Clemente Day was celebrated throughout Major League Baseball and the state of Pennsylvania with a Day of Service led by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Clemente Foundation, emphasizing the enduring impact of Roberto Clemente's legacy.  Saturday was all about the youth, as a clinic featuring Luis and Roberto Jr., sons of Roberto Clemente, Coach Ballgame, and the Major League Baseball Alumni Association took center stage, and Ken Griffey Sr. made a very special surprise appearance. Young athletes got the opportunity to hone their skills while learning from the best, keeping the spirit of baseball alive.

Finally, Sunday morning came, bringing with it the 2.1K charity walk. Starting at the iconic statue of Roberto Clemente, participants embarked on a picturesque journey around the historic PNC Park, taking in the breathtaking views of the river and the majestic bridges.

The morning provided perfect walking weather, with good energy filling the air, making it a memorable way to conclude the weekend festivities.

Adding to the joyous atmosphere, The Pittsburgh Pirates Parrot led the way, injecting the walk with its trademark humor and antics. Laughter and smiles abounded as participants soaked in the beauty of the surroundings and the warmth of being together.  Over 100 guests walked the course, while many others participated thanks to the "virtual" option made available by P3R. Each of the race bibs featured the number "21" proudly emblazoned in the center in honor of Clemente, with the actual racer's bib number below. Everyone also received a 50th Anniversary Clemente Hat, and BodyArmour provided snacks and refreshments.

In the end, the Roberto Clemente 2.1K Charity Walk was not just about walking; it was about coming together, reminiscing about the incredible moments of the weekend, and sharing memories about the enduring legacy of Roberto Clemente. The entire weekend was filled with purpose, unity, and love for the game, and we can't wait to do it again next year. Thank you to everyone who made this weekend truly outstanding!
